Shaun was brought up in an artistic family environment where his parent’s nurtured and inspired him to reach his potential, both as an artist and as an individual. At an early age, Shaun took a keen interest in music, becoming familiar with trumpet, guitar, and percussion. Through his teens,
Shaun would inevitably start local rock bands with fellow classmates as musicians. During this time another art form peaked Shaun’s interest, which would change the course of his life. Videography would become his new-found obsession and passion.
During high school, Shaun took a communications class, which allowed him to explore the use of video to tell stories. Through this new-found medium, he and some classmates would collaborate on comedy sketch’s, skateboard videos, and short film ideas. Taking his love of cameras one step further, Shaun would go on to do his co-op at local television station Cogeco Cable, as a broadcast camera operator shooting local sports.
After high school, Shaun studied Broadcast Communications at Mohawk College, receiving a diploma and graduating Dean’s Honor. During his last few months at college, Shaun received a job opportunity to work for, what was then, Alliance Atlantis, as a Broadcast Technician. He then brought his new broadcast skills to work for Astral Media. But after working for Astral Media for three years, Shaun felt he needed a change and decided to finally re-focus his energy towards Cinematography.
Shaun went back to school to learn and expand his knowledge of Cinematography through the one-year Film Production program at the Vancouver Film School. With a few short films and having directed a documentary under his belt, Shaun has been able to lend his services to independent and large scale productions alike, in all facets of filmmaking. His attention to detail combined with a creative and pragmatic approach to any production has made him a better storyteller, not only as a Cinematographer, but as a well-rounded Filmmaker.
